Loren Nunley, MD, MBA, is a practicing infectious diseases physician working to reduce health disparities and advance health equity among marginalized communities. His expertise is wide-ranging encompassing infection control/prevention, vaccines & immunizations, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases including COVID-19. Most recently, he has successfully fused his experience in healthcare business with his training in epidemiology to provide COVID-19 consulting services as organizations navigate the ever-changing needs and requirements of employees and clients amidst the ongoing pandemic. His engaging COVID-19 talks have instilled confidence in organization leadership to lead their teams through uncertain times.
Dr. Nunley earned his undergraduate degree in Individual Studies with concentrations in global health and finance from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. After completing the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) Program at Georgetown University School of Medicine, he simultaneously acquired his Medical Degree (MD) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Howard University College of Medicine and Howard University School of Business. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University / ChristianaCare Health System. He went on to complete fellowship specialty training in Infectious Diseases at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Upon returning to his hometown of Chicago, he joined Metro Infectious Disease Consultants where he maintains an inclusive private practice caring for patients of all kinds regardless of insurance status in the inpatient and outpatient settings. He specializes in caring for those persons living with HIV while also providing infection control and antimicrobial stewardship support to several organizations.
Dr. Nunley has presented nationally on infectious diseases and health disparities. He is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) where he currently serves on the Inclusion, Diversity, Access, & Equity (IDA&E) Committee. He remains active in several organizations including HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA), International Antiviral Society – USA (IAS-USA), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), American College of Physicians (ACP), American Medical Association (AMA), and National Medical Association (NMA).
Dr. Nunley believes success begins and ends with mentorship to which he has committed much of his nonclinical time. He is committed to the virtues of curiosity and hard work which he instills in his mentees. He has become a thought leader in his field by bringing his business insight, obsession with process improvement, and dedication to personal excellence to all his roles.
